2024 has been nothing short of a revelation for me in the world of photography! After years of battling a creative slump, I took the plunge and upgraded my camera gear. That decision not only reignited my passion but also brought me face-to-face with breathtaking landscapes and vibrant wildlife that I couldn't resist capturing.

From discovering hidden bluebell woods perfect for annual spring shoots to taking my first shot of the iconic fly agaric mushroom, the past year has been a cornucopia of creative exploration. I even had the opportunity to organize a photography workshop in Budapest alongside travel expert Jeremy Flint—what a thrill!

As I look ahead to 2025, I’m committed to ensuring I don't miss any key seasonal moments. Here are the top five photography projects that are causing a buzz in my creative mind…

1. Mastering Light Painting!

Santa must have been particularly kind this Christmas because I received a fantastic set of light painting tools from Light Painting Brushes. With an array of accessories—from light wands to color hoods—I can't wait to explore this captivating art form. My plan is to dive into light painting throughout the long nights of January and February. Plus, as the darkness returns in the latter part of the year, I’ll revisit techniques to elevate my skills.

2. Capturing Tulips and Sunflowers at Peak Bloom!

Timing is crucial when it comes to photographing flowers in their full glory, and I honestly admit I've missed the mark in previous years. In 2025, I'm determined to be punctual and photograph vibrant tulip and sunflower fields during their peak. With bold reminders on my calendar, I’ll venture out in March and April for tulips and in August and September for sunflowers. And who knows? I might even stumble upon a brilliant field of poppies along the way, a task easier said than done given their elusive nature.

3. Wildlife Wonders: Rabbits and Hares!

Having once aspired to be a semi-professional wildlife photographer, I found myself in a bit of a bind after selling my coveted 300mm f/2.8 lens. But this spring, I won’t let that stop me! With countless farmers’ fields nearby, I'm looking to rent a high-quality lens to capture the charm and antics of local rabbits and hares, reviving a project I once paused.

4. Fairground Photography Extravaganza!

My local fair in 2024 was a visual feast. The dazzling lights and dynamic movement made for an exhilarating photography experience, full of moments waiting to be captured. However, I learned the hard way about the dangers of laser lights, which can damage camera sensors. Armed with a Kase Anti-Laser filter for protection and a plan to shoot on a more affordable camera, I'm also preparing to hire a model for some creative fairground portraits! Just imagining the striking backdrops of flickering lights and swirling fog is enough to get my excitement soaring.

5. Chasing Celestial Events!

Astrophotography has always been a passion, yet I've been consistently thwarted by missed celestial events. In the past year, I only caught a fleeting glimpse of a meteor shower while others captured stunning aurora borealis. This time around, I’m gearing up for all the key skywatching moments, from the Perseid and Geminid Meteor showers to a highly-anticipated total lunar eclipse happening on March 14, where stargazers across the Americas and parts of Europe can enjoy the cosmic spectacle. Following astronomy sites meticulously will be my new priority!

As I prepare for these exciting projects, I can't help but feel fueled by the passion that 2024 has reignited in me. Here’s to a creative and fulfilling 2025!
