This alarming revelation was made public on December 16, following an investigation that traced the initial infection back to a family member's recent trip to Africa.

After the first case was identified, further testing revealed that three additional family members had contracted the virus, prompting immediate quarantine measures for the entire household. In response to this outbreak, local authorities took swift action by shutting down classrooms in the school attended by the infected children. This is not the first encounter Germany has had with the Clade Ib variant; the country recorded its initial case in October.
