Bestronics Aims for Increased Collaboration and Growth at BIC
Three years after its establishment at the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC), Bestronics is determined to enhance collaboration with other tenants and expedite its prototyping activities. Initially opened to create a dynamic environment for prototyping while the company's main facility in Veldhoven operates four full production lines, Bestronics has found that actual collaboration has been limited. Roel Vos, COO of Bestronics, emphasizes the importance of proactive engagement, stating, “It doesn’t happen by itself; you have to actively work at it.”
While the facility at BIC has successfully rolled out prototypes, Vos expresses disappointment regarding the collaboration with other companies. “We have created a wonderful line, and we do make use of it, but it's a shame that more is not happening,” he said, pointing out that current projects are primarily focused on internal prototypes rather than cooperative ventures with other businesses.
Unlocking Collaborative Potential
Bestronics pledges to provide significant added value to BIC companies and aims to leverage its expertise in electronic circuit board production and assembly. Vos articulated, “We can produce anything related to electronics and PCBs, starting from a single circuit board with short lead times. While we are happy to collaborate on design, our input on manufacturability and efficiency can be incredibly beneficial.”
A prime example of successful partnership is Bestronics’ work with Moving Intelligence, which has entrusted its entire production process to them. Bestronics takes care of everything from circuit board manufacturing to testing, integration, and customer delivery.
Embracing Local Production Strengths
The company attributes its flexibility and capability to a lean production system supported by seven state-of-the-art SMD lines, as well as various high-quality certifications including automotive and medical standards. Vos highlights the significance of fostering long-term relationships with clients, expressing a desire to scale operations alongside partners who share the same vision for growth.
Strategies for Increased Visibility
To promote collaboration, Vos suggests making their capabilities more apparent: “We need to identify which companies at BIC require electronics and actively reach out. Organizing a get-together to open our doors might be a beneficial step.” The BIC management is keen to facilitate these connections within the campus ecosystem.
Additionally, Vos sees potential in supporting start-ups at BIC. By leveraging existing relationships at the High Tech Campus to provide production support, Bestronics could assist emerging companies from prototype stage to scaling up successfully.
Continued Growth and Innovation
Bestronics is also expanding its capabilities at the Veldhoven location, having recently launched a new coating line and upgraded its ERP system to enhance efficiency. Vos notes plans for growth through strategic acquisitions of smaller, technically capable production companies, enabled by investments from ING Bank and OxGreenfield, who now hold a two-thirds stake in the company.
Bestronics' ultimate ambition is to double its production capacity without the need for physical expansion, as opportunities exist for increased shifts and continued investment in innovation. Importantly, the company trains its staff internally, thus avoiding skills shortages. Vos proudly mentions, “We even had a hairdresser join us—people from diverse backgrounds are welcome.”
Conclusion
In conclusion, Vos encourages other companies at BIC to engage with Bestronics, inviting them to explore collaborative opportunities. “We are here for a reason. We have resources and knowledge to share—let’s discover what we can achieve together!” The future looks bright for Bestronics, as it positions itself for substantial growth and community partnership within the innovative BIC ecosystem.
