This afternoon, a powerful snow system is set to sweep across the region, and weather experts are urging residents to prepare for severe conditions.
The authorities have issued a snow squall warning for Huron County and various areas in Perth County, impacting towns such as South Huron, Grand Bend, Goderich, Wingham, Stratford, and St. Marys. Additionally, a snow squall watch is posted for parts of Perth County and Bruce County, affecting locations like Saugeen Shores, Owen Sound, and stretching up to Tobermory.
According to CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison, "We’ll start your Wednesday with some light flurries, but heavier snow is on the way in the afternoon.” She highlights that regions in Midwestern Ontario could see significant snowfall accumulation, with totals estimated between 10 and 20 centimeters.
The snow squall may settle over the area, leading to even more snowfall—especially north of London. "As evening approaches Wednesday, residents in the southern parts of Huron County and northern Middlesex County should brace for heavy squalls,” warned Atchison.
As we move towards Thursday, the forecast isn't showing any signs of letting up. The potential for lake-effect snow persists, raising concerns over blowing snow accompanied by an intense drop in temperatures. Atchison predicts, "Snow will likely continue into Thursday, with temperatures plunging well below normal. Wind chills could make it feel like the minus teens overnight into early Thursday."
But don't worry! This icy atmosphere won't hang around for long. The weekend is shaping up to bring some relief with temperatures rising. By Saturday, a high of three degrees is expected, with overcast skies— and possibly some rain showers—on Sunday, reaching four degrees, and hitting plus five on Monday.
The weather this week is proving to be anything but stable, so residents are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts. With extreme cold returning, it’s essential to remain cautious and prepare for potential disruptions.
