As of now, the campaign has garnered almost $18,000 from 273 supporters on GoFundMe, suggesting that there is a budding interest among users desperate for change. The backdrop of this initiative is the rapid growth of Bluesky, which recently gained nearly 26 million users, half of whom joined after Donald Trump’s election victory. The foundation aims to be fully operational by the end of 2025. Despite acknowledging the uphill battle ahead, the initiative's supporters view the current climate in major social media firms as an optimal moment for transformative change. "Centralized ownership leads to a volatile digital space where users risk losing their platforms due to a single billionaire’s choices," Syed remarked.
