Calgary Teenager Arrested After Spree of Robberies Targeting Cannabis and Convenience Stores

In a stunning turn of events, a 19-year-old man has been taken into custody in relation to a series of over 20 daring robberies that struck both Calgary and Edmonton, with a particular focus on cannabis and convenience stores. This shocking crime wave, which unfolded over a span of just over three months, has left local communities on edge and prompted a thorough investigation by law enforcement.

According to police reports, the string of robberies occurred between September 1 and December 16, and authorities were able to connect the dots back to a single suspect by November. The accused, now identified as Ramy Khattab, was apprehended on December 16 in a northeast Calgary parking lot after a meticulous investigation.

What sets this case apart is the cunning tactics employed by Khattab. He allegedly used an array of disguises—including fake beards, moustaches, hats, sunglasses, masks, and wigs—to conceal his identity during the heists. The sheer audacity of his methods raises questions about the lengths to which individuals may go to commit crimes.

Upon his arrest, police executed search warrants at multiple locations, including a residence in the 8300 block of Saddlebrook Drive N.E., a storage unit in the 2100 block of 23 Street N.E., and a vehicle linked to the suspect. In these searches, authorities seized a collection of dangerous items, including an Airsoft gun, a replica Airsoft gun, two homemade stun guns, brass knuckles, and an assortment of disguises. Additionally, police recovered a stockpile of cigarettes and various vaping products, suggesting a possible motive behind some of the robberies.

Khattab faces a slew of serious charges: 13 counts of robbery while armed with a firearm, nine counts of robbery, nine counts of unlawful confinement, 21 counts of disguise with intent, 10 counts of intimidation, 18 counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and even two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon. His next court appearance is set for December 23.
