Celebrations Ignite for Hanukkah in Guelph and Waterloo Region!
As the sun set on Wednesday, residents in Guelph and the surrounding Waterloo Region welcomed the joyous festival of Hanukkah. This year is particularly special, marking a rare occasion where Hanukkah coincides with Christmas for the first time in nearly two decades.
Festivities kick off with a spectacular lighting of a giant menorah at Guelph's Market Square, scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. This vibrant community event promises not just a beautiful display of lights, but also a host of engaging indoor activities to celebrate the Festival of Lights. Participants can look forward to a Dreidel Scavenger Hunt, an oil press workshop, face painting, and captivating storytelling sessions centered around Hanukkah traditions.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Three additional menorah lightings are set to take place across the Waterloo Region throughout the festival, bringing communities together to share in the spirit of the holiday.
For those unfamiliar with the significance of Hanukkah, it commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the oil that lasted eight days during the Maccabean Revolt. Each night, a new candle is lit on the menorah, symbolizing hope and resilience.
Join the celebrations in Guelph and Waterloo Region as families and friends come together to honor this meaningful festival with joy, laughter, and the warmth of community spirit. Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of this historical celebration!
