In a heart-wrenching tragedy, a fundraising effort has been launched to support the family of a young man who sadly drowned near Vancouver’s Wreck Beach last week.
On Thursday evening, search and rescue teams rushed to the scene after spotting a man struggling in the water. Despite the combined efforts of helicopters, drones, police dogs, and agencies such as the Canadian Coast Guard and Vancouver Fire Rescue, the situation turned dire.
Unfortunately, the Vancouver Police Department confirmed the search was called off on Friday after a body was discovered washed ashore at Third Beach, several kilometers away in Stanley Park.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Rahul Ranwa, an aspiring MBA student from India who had recently moved to Canada. His cousin, Yuvraj Singh, has organized a GoFundMe campaign in honor of Rahul.
"Rahul was only 26, the cherished only son of his parents, and had relocated to Canada last year as an international student," Singh stated. "He was a bright student, an active member of the Student Council, and juggled a part-time job to support his family back home."
The fundraising campaign aims to raise enough money to repatriate Rahul's body to India and also to alleviate the financial burdens on his grieving parents, who incurred debts for his education and relocation.
"We want to honor his dreams, built on their sacrifices," Singh emphasized. "We aim to lift the financial weight they are left with during this unimaginable time of loss."
