A Tragic Loss That Shook a Community
The Hamilton community is coming together in a touching candlelight vigil this Sunday to honor the memory of 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa, a promising Mohawk College student who lost her life to a stray bullet in a shocking act of violence.
A Nightmarish Incident
Harsimrat, originally from India, was awaiting a bus to work on April 17 when she was struck in the chest by an errant shot during a chaotic shooting incident. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, leaving her family and friends in deep sorrow.
CCTV Captures the Chaos
Investigations reveal that the gunfire erupted when the passenger of a black Mercedes SUV opened fire on a white sedan. In the aftermath, the white sedan sped away, while the Mercedes fled the scene. The violence didn't stop there—bullets tragically pierced the back window of a nearby home on Allenby Avenue, where residents were watching TV just feet away. Miraculously, no one inside was harmed.
A City in Mourning
Hamilton Mayor Andrea Howarth condemned the shooting as a 'senseless act of violence' that has left a devastating mark on the community. Meanwhile, the Indian consulate in Toronto expressed their profound sadness over Harsimrat's untimely death.
Remembering Harsimrat Randhawa
Mohawk College President Paul Armstrong expressed the institution's grief, describing the loss of this 'young woman full of promise' as 'extremely tragic.' Harsimrat’s contributions to the college and her spirit will surely be remembered.
Join the Vigil to Honor Her Memory
The vigil will be held at Hamilton City Hall starting at 4 p.m., bringing together friends, family, and community members in a poignant display of solidarity and remembrance for Harsimrat Randhawa.
