Community Spirit in Action
In a heartwarming initiative, credit unions in Brandon have joined forces with the Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner to ensure that this year's event has enough funds to cover the turkey budget. This shows the power of community spirit as local organizations come together to support those in need during the festive season.
A Cherished Tradition
The annual dinner, a cherished tradition since 1985, has seen exponential growth over the years. Last Christmas, volunteers served around 3,000 meals, necessitating the preparation of over 100 turkeys! Sunrise Credit Union's marketing manager, Heather Merckx, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. "We are thrilled to partner with our fellow Brandon-based credit unions to make this dinner a resounding success once again in 2024," she stated.
Fostering Community Connections
The event serves as a pivotal community gathering, fostering a festive atmosphere and familial connections. "We want everyone to feel the love and importance of this Christmas," Merckx added. The spirit of giving shines brightly here, as exemplified by Gladden Smith, chair of the board overseeing the event. He emphasized the significance of the day for many. “For some, that may mean opening presents. To us, it means opening our hearts as we prepare for yet another Christmas Dinner."
Gratitude for Support
Thanks to the generous contributions from the Brandon credit unions, the future of this beloved tradition looks secure. Smith expressed deep gratitude for the support, stating, "Without this kind of support, we may not be able to continue this tradition."
