A Mother's Heartfelt Plea for Justice

In a heart-wrenching call for justice, Devika Naraine, mother of 21-year-old Amir Naraine, is urging the public to come forward with information regarding her son’s unsolved murder that occurred five years ago in Etobicoke. The Toronto Police Service recently announced a $5,000 reward for any tips that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.

A Tragic Night

During a news conference held on Thursday, Devika described Amir as a "remarkable, hardworking young man" whose life was tragically cut short. “My son deserves to rest peacefully. We need the community’s help to provide answers,” she said, her voice filled with emotion.

Amir was shot and killed on September 29, 2019, while sitting in a vehicle parked at a plaza near Kipling Avenue and Steeles Avenue West. Earlier that evening, he had attended a party in Brampton with a friend and two unidentified males. An altercation unfolded that night, leading to gunfire that left Amir and his friend wounded. While Amir was found deceased in the car, his friend managed to survive after seeking medical treatment but has yet to provide a statement to investigators.

Clues and Suspects

According to the police, following the shooting, the individuals fled in Amir’s vehicle. Surveillance footage shows two men walking away from the scene. One man is described as short, wearing a hat and light-colored attire, while the other is taller, dressed in dark clothing. Detectives believe these men hold crucial information about that fateful night.

Appeal from Law Enforcement

Detective Sergeant Aaron Akeson implored those with knowledge of the incident to come forward, emphasizing that even the slightest details could have significant implications for the case. “Amir’s family has waited over five years for answers,” he said. “We believe someone in the community knows what happened that night.

Community Support Needed

The police have set November 1 as the deadline for the reward offering. "This is not about being a 'rat,' this is about finding closure for Amir and giving his family the justice they desperately seek," Devika stressed, addressing potential witnesses. “Only those present know his last moments and words.”

How to Help

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police directly or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477. The community's support could be the key to finally uncovering the truth behind Amir's tragic death and helping a family find peace after years of uncertainty.
