At 99 years young, Dick Van Dyke is here to prove that love knows no age limits! The legendary star recently celebrated his enduring relationship with wife Arlene Silver, who is 46 years his junior.
During the couple's appearance at a fundraiser in Malibu, Van Dyke confidently dismissed naysayers who doubted their marriage. "We get along so well," he told People. "Everybody said it wouldn’t work." Silver, 53, chimed in, adding, "We just care about each other so much; it’s eerie how well this marriage works." With a playful jab, she further noted, "People the same age don’t last."
The charming couple reminisced about the first time they crossed paths at the SAG Awards in 2006. Van Dyke recalled feeling unusually bold, saying, "I never said hello to a strange girl in my life, but something about her got me to jump up and say, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.' I was right!" Initially, he employed Silver for her makeup expertise, but their romantic relationship blossomed years later.
Together, they empower and uplift each other; Silver expressed how Van Dyke inspires her to reach for the stars, while he confirmed, "And you can!" They exchanged vows in 2012, marking a beautiful union that defies norms.
Reflecting on their relationship, Van Dyke previously admitted he was blissfully unaware of their age difference when he first approached Silver. "I had no idea she was half my age," he revealed to Entertainment Tonight. "I was fortunate that I didn’t grow up; we were meant to be."
Before finding love with Silver, the iconic actor was married to Margie Willett from 1948 to 1984, with whom he shares four grown children: Christian, 74, Barry, 73, Stacy, 69, and Carrie Beth, 63. He also had a long-term relationship with actress Michelle Triola Marvin until her passing in 2009.
Dick Van Dyke continues to shine in the spotlight, proving that love can indeed transcend age, as he and Arlene navigate their life together, hand in hand.
