In a tense incident near Thunder Bay, Ontario, the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched a probe following a police shooting that left a 58-year-old man wounded.

The unsettling event transpired Thursday afternoon when the man, armed with a shotgun, was seen walking along Highway 11/17, approximately 30 kilometers from Thunder Bay.

At around 2:18 p.m., concerned citizens dialed 911 to report the man’s suspicious activity. Responding officers quickly located him, but the situation escalated when he fired the shotgun towards a police cruiser. Fortunately, no officers were injured during this dangerous exchange of gunfire.

In response to the threat, an officer discharged their weapon, injuring the man. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries.
