Exciting New Highway Between Lower Sackville and Dartmouth Set to Open This Friday!
A much-anticipated new highway connecting Lower Sackville and Dartmouth in Nova Scotia is officially set to open this Friday, bringing a mix of excitement and convenience to local residents and commuters alike.
This newly constructed nine-kilometre highway will seamlessly link Highway 102 in Lower Sackville with the existing Highway 107, enhancing routes from Burnside to Musquodoboit Harbour. According to Minister of Public Works Fred Tilley, the extension is expected to alleviate congestion and reduce accidents that are currently prevalent on Magazine Hill, a notorious bottleneck in the area. “With our growing population, projects like this are also important to help support those who want to come and live in our great province,” he mentioned in a recent statement.
The project has required a substantial investment of $252.4 million, with the province committing $151.1 million, the federal government contributing $86.5 million, and Halifax Regional Municipality investing $14.8 million to ensure its realization.
“This new highway connector marks a significant leap forward towards improving traffic flow and enhancing road safety in our region,” declared Sean Fraser, MP for Central Nova. He added that the successful completion of this highway plays a crucial role in fostering economic growth, enhancing community connectivity, and paving the way for sustainable development in the greater Halifax area.
Key Features of the Project
Key features of the project include:
- A total of nine kilometres of highway connecting Exit 4C on Highway 102 to Highway 118.
- A new interchange and connector leading to Burnside Drive and Akerley Boulevard, designed for future expansion of the Burnside Industrial Park.
- An additional interchange near Anderson Lake, facilitating potential future developments in the Bedford area.
- A new interchange along with fresh lanes directly connecting to Highway 102.
- The construction of eight new bridges and nine roundabouts to improve traffic efficiency.
Originally announced in 2017, construction began in 2019 and has finally come to fruition, reinforcing the commitment of local and provincial authorities to improve infrastructure and drive the region's growth. As residents gear up for the opening, many are already speculating about how this development will reshape travel and tourism within the thriving communities of Nova Scotia.
Don't miss the chance to be among the first to experience this transformative addition to the region's road network!
