Health Canada has announced a sweeping recall of multiple models of Fisher-Price Snuga Swings, following the heartbreaking reports of five infant deaths linked to the product. This action comes in coordination with authorities in the U.S. and Mexico to prevent further tragedies from occurring.

Safety Hazards

The recall stems from alarming evidence that suggests the swings can pose a significant suffocation hazard if used for sleeping or if bedding materials are added. It has been confirmed that the combination of the headrest and body support insert on the seat pad can exacerbate this risk, leading to a potentially fatal situation.

Incidents Reported

A representative from Health Canada assured Global News that none of the reported fatalities took place in Canada, highlighting that the incidents were limited to outside the country. As of October 7, five tragic reports involving infants have raised serious concerns about the safety of the swings when utilized as sleep devices.

Joint Recall Action

Consequently, a joint recall was initiated by Health Canada, in collaboration with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Mexico's Consumer Protection Federal Agency, and the product's parent company, Mattel.

A total of 12 models are affected by this recall, including both the individual swing and "cradle 'n swing" variations.
