In a startling turn of events, a high-risk sex offender has found himself back behind bars just days after his release into a Vancouver halfway house. Police have confirmed the re-arrest of 30-year-old Hayden McCorriston, who had been on the run since April 18.

McCorriston, known for his shocking history of sexual crimes—including multiple assaults against women—was released into the facility following a lengthy sentence. Convicted in 2022, he faces a staggering array of charges: five counts of sexual assault, break and enter, and other serious offenses like robbery and assaulting a peace officer.

His life of crime culminated in a total of 15 charges, stemming from a notorious four-day crime spree across Vancouver and Burnaby, marked by horrific acts of violence. Just one day after his release, McCorriston vanished, prompting authorities to issue a Canada-wide warrant.

Surveillance footage showed him leaving the halfway house at around 10:25 a.m., and police suspected he had made his way to the Downtown Eastside, prompting a public alert.

"It seems he took conscious steps to evade capture," noted Sgt. Steve Addison, highlighting the danger he posed to the community.

Fortunately, on April 21, a tip led officers to McCorriston’s location near Granville and Robson streets, where he was swiftly apprehended. Under the strict conditions of his release, McCorriston was prohibited from consuming drugs and alcohol, maintaining a curfew, and entering licensed establishments. Additionally, he was required to disclose all intimate relationships with women to his parole supervisor.
