Google Photos Unveils Fresh Navigation Overhaul on Web with Exciting New Collections Feature

In a major update that follows its rollout on Android and iOS earlier this August, Google Photos has revamped its web interface, replacing the traditional "Library" with a dynamic new section called "Collections."

The changes are noticeably aimed at streamlining the user experience. The Google Photos side panel has seen the “Explore” option removed, while “Sharing” has transformed into “Updates.” This revamped activity feed mirrors the recent mobile design introduced in early November, allowing users to keep track of updates on shared albums, conversations, partner sharing, memories, and storage insights. Just a click on the overflow menu reveals all related sharing activity and conversations.

The rebranded “Collections” section brings a more organized look than before. Notably, the previous "Favorites" is no longer the first item in the menu, making way for quicker access to Albums and Documents. Additionally, users can now effortlessly navigate to sections for People & Pets, Places, Videos, and Recently Added items, mirroring the grid view already enjoyed by Android and iOS users.
