In a bizarre turn of events, a would-be bank robber in Hamilton found himself in a comical situation when his getaway bike was stolen right from under his nose during an attempted heist.

On Wednesday, December 18th, around 12:30 PM, Hamilton police received a frantic call about a robbery in progress at the Bank of Montreal (BMO) located on Upper Paradise Road, near Mohawk Road West. Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that a man had entered the bank pedaling his bicycle, where he allegedly handed a note to a bank teller demanding cash. Not only did he pass a threatening message, but he also suggested that he was armed.

However, his plans quickly unraveled. Alert bank employees confronted the thief, forcing him to flee the establishment empty-handed. But the absurdity didn’t end there—upon exiting the bank, he discovered that his bike had vanished.

The attempted robber, realizing he was now on foot, bolted from the scene of the crime, leaving officers in disbelief at this unexpected twist. Authorities described him as a white male, standing between five-foot-four and five-foot-eight. His outfit included a long, multi-colored scarf, black sunglasses, a blue surgical mask, a fur-trimmed black jacket, black gloves, dark pants, and white shoes.

As for the bike thief, he’s only described as a man dressed entirely in black, presumably enjoying his new set of wheels while chaos unfolded.

Local police are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage of the incident to step forward and assist with the investigation.
