Icy Roadways Lead to Crashes Across Eastern Ontario—Stay Safe!
In a chilling reminder of the season, icy rain swept through eastern Ontario this morning, prompting the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to respond to a surge of minor collisions. While the Quinte region was fortunate to escape any major accidents, over 70 minor crashes were reported across the area between midnight and 9 a.m., thankfully none resulting in life-threatening injuries.
However, motorists are urged to exercise caution as conditions remain treacherous. Notably, the westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Kingston are currently closed due to a more serious incident involving a collision between a tractor-trailer and a car. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported from this crash either.
As winter weather continues to affect driving conditions, authorities are reminding drivers to adjust their speed and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Black ice can form unexpectedly, making even familiar routes hazardous.
Stay tuned for updates and ensure you’re taking the necessary precautions when hitting the roads in adverse weather conditions. Your safety is paramount—don't let the icy grip of winter catch you off guard!
