Amy Locane Opens Up About Her Recovery Following Prison Release

In a heartfelt interview with Us Weekly, former Melrose Place star Amy Locane candidly reflects on her life after serving six and a half years for a tragic DUI crash that claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman, Helene Seeman. Locane, now 53, expresses the heavy burden of remorse she carries, stating, "To this day, I have a lot of remorse. It’s a very, very heavy reality to live with."

A Life Forever Changed by a Fatal Mistake

Locane's journey began in 2010 when she was involved in a horrific car accident that not only took Seeman's life but also critically injured her husband, Fred. Convicted of vehicular homicide and sent to prison, Locane’s life was irrevocably altered. After initially serving two and a half years, she was re-sentenced in 2020 due to the judge's belief that her first term was too lenient. She finally regained her freedom in December 2024.

Struggles with Reintegration: A New Reality

Reflecting on her re-entry into society, Locane admits that it feels "very raw" and that she perceives the world with fresh eyes. However, the isolation from her past life has been difficult. "You can’t expect them to suffer with you," she lamented about her family, highlighting the loneliness that comes with adjusting after her long absence. "It’s a very isolating experience... you have to deal with everything that comes your way by yourself."

Finding Strength in Adversity

Despite the challenges, Locane acknowledges that her experiences have fostered a sense of independence and personal strength. "You do know that you can handle anything -- there is a great independence that comes from that," she shared. Yet, she recognizes that moving on from the accident entirely may never be possible. "I don’t think something that shaped you and your world so much could be something that you don’t think about."

Reconnecting with Family Post-Prison

During her incarceration, the hardest aspect was being away from her daughters, Paige and Avery, now 18 and 16. Locane revealed that communication with them often felt pointless, given their distance. However, she is now working to repair her relationship with them, stating, "Some days are better than others. It’s going to take some time."

A New Chapter in Life and Career

Now living in Princeton, New Jersey, Locane attends a local Presbyterian church, works at a doctor’s office, and is pursuing her associate degree. Though she left acting in 2006, she expressed an eagerness to return to the screen, even voice the possibility of joining a Melrose Place reboot. "I would do it in a heartbeat," she stated, hopeful for a chance to reconnect with former co-stars and fans alike.

Looking to the Future with Hope

Locane concludes her story with glimmers of hope and aspirations for the future. She dreams of a family that grows old together and is open to love again. "If I meet a guy now, I don’t have to worry about telling them, 'Oh, by the way, I might have to go away for a little bit,'" she added with optimism.
