As January unfolds, communities across Canada come together to observe Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a vital initiative aimed at challenging the stigma surrounding dementia and fostering conversations that matter. This month-long campaign is pivotal not only for raising awareness but also for creating a supportive environment where individuals can openly discuss their experiences with dementia.

One of the leading organizations, the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth, is showcasing an array of educational events designed to inform and engage the public. These events focus on equipping families and caregivers with the knowledge they need to navigate the complexities of dementia care.

Exciting Events to Attend!

Mark your calendars! On January 22 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., join us for “Talk with the Doc!” featuring Dr. Alexandrea Peel, a knowledgeable local geriatrician. This informative Zoom session will help attendees prepare for the myriad of medical decisions that come when caring for individuals with dementia. After Dr. Peel’s presentation, participants will have the chance to engage in a dynamic Q&A session—don’t miss this opportunity to get your questions answered!

Additionally, the Dementia Basics Series will continue to offer free one-hour sessions every Monday and Tuesday, designed for both families and healthcare professionals. These sessions will cover essential topics:

- **January 20-21:** 10 Warning Signs – Should I be Worried? - **January 27-28:** Types of Dementia - **February 3-4:** Brain Changes – 8 Aspects of Dementia - **February 10-11:** Communication Tips

If you’re seeking a deeper understanding of age-related memory changes, consider enrolling in the Virtual Memory and Aging Program, running from January 23 to February 13, every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This online program, while requiring a $25 workbook fee, offers financial assistance for those in need, and focuses on enhancing brain health with practical strategies.

Special Workshop Announcement!

Don't miss the upcoming half-day workshop on January 29 at the Burnside Agri-plex in Stratford. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for a range of informative sessions, including topics on fraud awareness, fire safety, smart driving for seniors, and maintaining brain health.
