Jay Leno, the beloved former host of "The Tonight Show," is currently recovering from injuries after an unfortunate accident over the weekend. The 74-year-old comedian took a tumble down a steep 60-foot hill while making his way to dinner near his hotel in Pennsylvania, leaving him "black and blue" on the left side of his face.
In a candid interview ahead of a show in Beverly Hills, Leno revealed the extent of his injuries. He appeared with a patch over his swollen eye, showcasing significant bruising and a broken wrist, as well as the loss of a fingernail. Despite the severity of his injuries, Leno maintained his sense of humor, joking that he "hit a bunch of rocks" during the fall.
Leno recounted the chain of events that led to his misfortune. Staying at a Hampton Inn about 30 miles outside of Pittsburgh, he was eager to grab a bite before his performance. Without a car at his disposal, he took a shortcut down a hill after deciding that it didn’t look too steep. In his own words, he thought, "the hill doesn’t look that steep – about 60, 70 feet. Let me see if I can get down there…" and soon found himself tumbling down.
Remarkably, Leno still managed to perform just three hours after the incident, demonstrating his dedication to his craft and his resilience. It wasn’t until he returned home to Los Angeles that he sought medical attention for his injuries.
This incident isn't Leno's first brush with adversity. Just two years earlier, he suffered severe burns in a garage fire, leading to treatment at the Grossman Burn Center. Following that traumatic experience, he faced additional challenges, including breaking his collarbone and ribs in a motorbike accident. When asked about his series of unfortunate events, Leno quipped, “The great thing about this age is that you don’t learn by your mistakes – you just keep doing the same stupid things.”
Despite the setbacks, Leno continues to inspire his fans with his undying spirit and humor. He is scheduled to appear at a charity event this Wednesday, aimed at supporting the very burns hospital that aided his recovery in 2022. Will this resilient comedian ever get a break, or is more mischief on the horizon? Stay tuned!
