Jennie Garth Opens Up About Heartbreaking Miscarriages and the Journey of Parenthood with Dave Abrams

2024-10-02

Jennie Garth recently shared a deeply personal chapter of her life during an emotional episode of her podcast, "I Choose Me With Jennie Garth." The 52-year-old actress revealed that she experienced two consecutive miscarriages after she and her husband, Dave Abrams, tied the knot in July 2015.

Reflecting on their journey, Garth spoke candidly about her pregnancies, notably discovering she was expecting just after their wedding. "We got pregnant naturally," she explained, while Abrams confirmed that their mini honeymoon in Carmel, Monterey, was soon followed by joyous news of a baby on the way.

However, tragedy struck just before they reached the four-month mark. "We found out there was no heartbeat," Abrams recalled, adding that Garth underwent a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure to help her cope with the loss. She expressed the difficulty of carrying a baby that was no longer alive, stating, "It was too much for me."

The couple's heartbreak did not end there, as they encountered a second pregnancy that lasted just a month and a half. "The doctor mentioned it wasn’t going to be healthy anyway," Abrams explained, leading to another D&C procedure. This difficult period took a toll on their emotional well-being, challenging their communication and connection as a couple.

Garth revealed that she struggled with feelings of shame about not being able to carry a child with the man she loved. Despite this pain, she acknowledged Abrams's role as a “wonderful stepdad” to her three daughters—Luca, Lola, and Fiona—from her previous marriage to Peter Facinelli.

In a significant turn of events, the couple attempted in vitro fertilization (IVF) in hopes of expanding their family. However, their journey faced more hurdles, leading to a brief separation of ten months in late 2017 due to the stress of failed treatments. "We were trying to have a baby, and it kept failing," Garth recounted, highlighting the strain it placed on their relationship.

Eventually, Abrams filed for divorce in April 2018, but in a twist of fate, he dismissed the case in February 2019, allowing them to focus on rekindling their relationship. This experience led them to prioritize their bond instead of the pressures of conceiving, paving the way for a deeper understanding of each other.

Garth's openness about her struggles not only sheds light on the emotional intricacies of miscarriage but also emphasizes the importance of support and communication in relationships during challenging times. As they navigate their path forward, both Garth and Abrams stand united, embracing the love they share and the family that continues to grow through their existing children.

With her candid revelations, Garth inspires many facing similar hardships while reminding us that love, patience, and resilience pave the way through adversity.
