Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK has recently shared insightful reflections on her solo musical journey during an interview released on October 15th (KST) by WIRED on their YouTube channel. The Q&A format of the interview allowed fans to delve deeper into Jennie's experiences and thoughts following her highly anticipated solo comeback.

When discussing her beginnings, Jennie stated, “I’ve always been a member of BLACKPINK since our debut in August 2016.” She took a moment to reminisce about her childhood in New Zealand, where she lived from the age of 9 to 14. “I used to have a strong accent, but now it’s completely gone,” she lamented, adding, “It makes me sad because people don’t know I lived in New Zealand.” Jennie also fondly recalled her love for local delicacies, mentioning, “I like Marmite. When Rosé and I were in New Zealand, we were always happy when people gave us Vegemite or Marmite.”

Reflecting on her first solo single, "SOLO," Jennie noted, “It’s been about 5-6 years, but we’ll go with 5. It feels like such a long time ago." As she prepared for the release of her new single "Mantra," she shared that she revisited old videos and pictures from her journey, exclaiming how youthful she looked.

Jennie elaborated on the stark differences between creating music as an individual artist versus as part of a group: “Working as a solo artist is very different. You’re alone in the studio, and with the group, we would discuss everything together. Now, I have to make all the decisions myself, which is the biggest difference.”

On the personal front, Jennie revealed a more introverted side of herself, stating she is “very shy” and often “the quietest” among friends. However, she expressed a desire for fans to understand her complexity: “The person you see on stage is very different from that. I hope we can get to know each other better.”

When asked about her favorite BLACKPINK song, Jennie mentioned "Lovesick Girls," explaining, “It changes all the time, but right now it’s 'Lovesick Girls' because it showcases BLACKPINK’s cute and girly side and has a unique vibe we rarely show on stage.” She tantalizingly hinted at the possibility of self-composed tracks in her upcoming album, which is sure to excite fans eager for more personal expressions in her music.

Jennie's solo comeback began with the release of her single "Mantra" on October 11th (KST), marking a significant moment in her career as she steps further into the spotlight as a solo artist.

Stay tuned as BLACKPINK is also rumored to make a full-group comeback and embark on a world tour in 2025, according to YG Entertainment. This news promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats as they await more from their favorite K-pop group!
