The reason behind his absence, however, is positively heartwarming—he and his wife, Kristin Hodge, welcomed their fifth child into the world on the very same day!

Taking to his Instagram Stories, Chu expressed his joy and disbelief, stating he "can’t believe this happened while the movie is premiering." Alongside a touching photo of Hodge holding their newborn daughter, he warmly declared, “Magic is in the air.”

In a sweet message to his newest family member, Chu wrote, “Welcome to our world, you’re gonna do great. You have a lot of witches on your side,” a reference to the film’s enchanting theme.

"Wicked," which stars the talented Ariana Grande as Glinda and the Oscar-nominated Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, is a two-part cinematic adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. The story serves as a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," reimagining the events of Oz before Dorothy's iconic arrival.

Though he couldn’t be present in person, Chu's heartfelt presence was definitely felt during the premiere. A touching video message was played for the audience, where Chu spoke live from the hospital. “I’ve waited for three years to have this moment to share a movie with you, but I’ve waited my whole life to have this moment, to have a fifth child right now,” he said, eliciting a collective "aww" from the audience as they watched. He jokingly added, “Of course, this little girl knows when to show up.”
