On March 24, 2025, the City of Lethbridge will join over 50 iconic Canadian landmarks in a powerful unified display of solidarity for World Tuberculosis (TB) Day. As the sun sets, City Hall will be bathed in a striking red light, symbolizing the ongoing battle against this preventable and treatable disease.
This illuminating event isn’t just a spectacle; it aims to raise awareness about the urgent need to combat tuberculosis both locally and globally. Organizers are inviting the community to snap photos of the illuminated landmarks and share them on social media using the hashtag #YesWeCanEndTB, encouraging citizens to engage with their local Members of Parliament about the necessity of addressing TB.
Taryn Russell, executive director of Results Canada, emphasized the importance of collective action in the fight against TB. “We are proud to partner with Lethbridge on this important initiative. Together, we can work towards a stable world free of TB, where every individual has access to the care and support they need to live a healthy life,” Russell stated.
This year, TB is particularly alarming, resulting in approximately 1.25 million deaths globally in 2023. Russell pointed out that the impact of infectious diseases like TB does not recognize national borders, making it critical for citizens to unite in their efforts to eliminate this public health threat. “The rise in TB cases in Canada is concerning, and our response must be proactive. We cannot turn a blind eye; we must take action to protect our future,” she added.
Lethbridge isn’t alone in this fight. Other notable landmarks across Alberta participating in World TB Day include Calgary's iconic Calgary Tower, Olympic Plaza, and The Confluence, along with Edmonton's High Level Bridge and Red Deer's City Hall.
Maps detailing the full list of Canadian communities and their participating buildings will also be made available, encouraging more municipalities to join this crucial campaign. As we approach March 24, make sure to be part of this worldwide movement, and let your voice be heard in the fight against tuberculosis! Together, we can make a difference!
