Pope Francis Shows Signs of Improvement in Health After Pneumonia Battle
In a recent update from the Vatican, the Holy See Press Office provided encouraging news regarding Pope Francis' health. After weeks of treatment for bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli hospital, the Pope is reportedly on the mend and requiring less intensive respiratory support.
As of Friday evening, doctors noted that the 86-year-old pontiff no longer relies on mechanical ventilation during the night. Instead, he is being administered oxygen through nasal cannulas, allowing him greater freedom and comfort. During the day, he is increasingly using less high-flow oxygen, indicating a positive trajectory in his recovery.
Despite these improvements, the Vatican cautions that the Pope's doctors have yet to make any statements regarding a potential discharge from the hospital, reinforcing the careful approach needed in his ongoing treatment.
For the time being, Pope Francis has foregone visitor appointments, dedicating his days to prayer, therapy exercises, and preparatory work. Ahead of the traditional Angelus prayer, scheduled for this weekend, the Holy See confirmed that the event will proceed as usual, although updates on the Pope's health will be communicated as they become available. The next expected bulletin will arrive no earlier than Monday.
Pope Francis has been hospitalized since February 14, undergoing intensive care for pneumonia. His health and recovery continue to be closely monitored, with the world watching and praying for his swift return to full health.
