From a young age, Bill exhibited a profound passion for music, showcasing his talents as the assistant organist at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist by the age of 19. Under the mentorship of Dr. Donald Cook, Bill honed his musical skills and later took on significant roles in the community. For over 40 years, he directed The Singing Legionnaires, a choir that fostered camaraderie and artistry among men through song. Additionally, he led The Silver Chord Singers, a senior's group founded by Memorial University, for 8 years, and served as organist and choir director across various churches in St. John’s, enhancing countless funerals and weddings with his musical contributions.
Bill was not only talented in music but also deeply committed to family values, heritage, and community engagement. He married the love of his life, Louise, in 1969, and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Bill devoted his life to raising their two children, Lisa and Jonathan, creating lasting memories filled with joy as he took them on various outings during their childhood.
Art was another avenue through which Bill expressed his creativity. He enjoyed painting and drawing, often crafting unique illustrations for the family Christmas cards each year. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Bill had an abundance of light-hearted jokes, which endeared him to family and friends alike. His love for animals, especially his family cats, was evident, and he took great pleasure in sharing his life on social media to keep in touch with loved ones.
Professionally, Bill trained in accounting and gained valuable experience working locally before partnering with Randell Porter to operate a successful business.
Bill leaves behind his devoted wife Louise, daughter Lisa and her husband Donald Buell, son Jonathan and daughter-in-law Nancy, grandchildren Rebecca and Jack, great-grandson Thomas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
