2024-10-01

In Loving Memory of Harold Alexander Collett

In a heartfelt farewell, friends and family gather to honor the life of Harold Alexander Collett—a beloved bus driver and cherished community figure who has recently passed away, leaving behind a remarkable legacy.

A Career Dedicated to Service

For 35 years, Harold expertly navigated the streets as a bus driver, earning a reputation as the “cool bus driver.” Known for his easygoing nature, he was adept at managing the bumps along Killarney Road, ensuring a smooth ride for his passengers. Even after retiring, Harold's impact remained profound as many of the children he once transported found themselves in roles caring for him in his later years. Throughout his career, he was dedicated to remembering each child who boarded his bus, finishing off his time on the route dedicated to special needs and wheelchair transports. Harold’s warmth and communication skills made him a beloved figure among the kids, always striving to ensure they felt important and valued.

A Passion for Model Trains

In his retirement, Harold found joy in building an impressive model train collection that took over half of his basement. His enthusiasm for the hobby was infectious, and he often invited friends and family over to showcase his latest additions.

The Host with the Most

An avid tea lover, Harold later developed a fondness for coffee, always ready to offer a warm cup to anyone visiting his home—while enthusiastically sharing stories about his model trains. He was a true host, making every guest feel welcome.

Family and Community

Harold leaves behind his devoted wife of 49 years, Dianne, their daughter Melissa, and four adoring grandchildren—Ellie, Weston, Benson, and Madison. His role as a grandfather was one of his greatest joys; he was known to show up bright and early on Christmas mornings or at birthday parties, eager to be part of the celebrations and always in the front row at school concerts.

A Lasting Impact

He is also survived by his loving sisters: Joan (Bob), Sharon (Larry), and Reggie (Gloria). Harold was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Helen Collett, and a brother, Richard (Patricia). The community will fondly remember Harold not only for his generosity and readiness to lend a helping hand but also for his compassion towards children who faced challenges. His friendly demeanor and kindness will be sorely missed by many.

Final Farewell

Friends and visitors are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, from 6-8 PM at Bishop’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, located at 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton. A private family interment will be held at Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the New Brunswick Heart & Stroke Foundation or The Canadian Association for Williams Syndrome.

Legacy of Kindness

As we remember Harold, let’s carry forward his spirit of kindness and dedication to the community. Drive safely, everyone, and celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who truly made a difference.
