It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Raymond Green, a cherished husband and father, who left us at the age of 82 on December 26, surrounded by the love of his family at the Health Sciences Centre.
Early Life
Born on September 14, 1942, in Valleyfield, Newfoundland and Labrador, Bill was a man deeply rooted in his family and community. He is predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Emma Green, among several other loved ones. Bill’s life was marked by his passion for music and an unwavering dedication to serving his community.
Musical Journey
A gifted musician, Bill’s journey began at just 19 when he became the assistant organist at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, where he honed his talents under the mentorship of Dr. Donald Cook. His love for music led him to direct The Singing Legionnaires for four decades, fostering camaraderie through song. He also led The Silver Chord Singers, a revered group for seniors, demonstrating his commitment to the arts and community engagement.
Family Life
Beyond music, Bill was a devoted family man. He and his beloved wife, Louise, celebrated an incredible 55 years of marriage, creating a warm and loving home for their two children, Lisa and Jonathan. He was known for his kindness and creativity, often taking his children and nieces and nephews on joyous outings and sharing the rich Barbour heritage during summer vacations in Newtown.
Artistry and Humor
Artistry was another key aspect of Bill’s life; he had a unique talent for painting and drawing, often designing the family Christmas card each year, showcasing his creative spirit and love for tradition.
With a captivating sense of humor, Bill was known for his endearing “Dad jokes,” bringing laughter to those around him. He had a great love for animals, particularly his many family cats, and kept bonding with friends and relatives through his engaging social media posts.
Career
Professionally, Bill trained in accounting and spent numerous years in local firms before embarking on a business venture with his longtime partner, Randell Porter. His professional life reflected the same dedication and integrity he demonstrated in his personal life.
Survived By
Bill is survived by his loving wife Louise, daughter Lisa and her husband Donald Buell, son Jonathan and his wife Nancy, grandchildren Rebecca and Jack, and great-grandson Thomas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
Funeral Arrangements
In honor of Bill's life, a visitation will be held at Carnell's Funeral Home, located at 329 Freshwater Rd., on Sunday, December 29, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Carnell Memorial Chapel, followed by a reception to celebrate Bill’s remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the SPCA, reflecting his deep compassion for both family and community.
