Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Raymond Green, a devoted husband, father, and cherished member of the community, who left us at the age of 82. Bill peacefully passed away on December 26, surrounded by his loving family at the Health Sciences Centre.
Early Life
Born in Valleyfield, Newfoundland and Labrador, on September 14, 1942, Bill was the beloved son of Clarence and Emma Green. He was predeceased by his immediate family, including his brother Winston and sister Ella, along with several in-laws. His legacy, however, is carried on by his wife Louise, children Lisa and Jonathan, and his grandchildren.
Musical Passion
Bill's passion for music was evident from a young age. At just 19, he took on the role of assistant organist at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, where his extraordinary talent was nurtured under the guidance of Dr. Donald Cook. His love for music never waned; for over four decades, Bill proudly directed The Singing Legionnaires, a group that fostered camaraderie through song, and led The Silver Chord Singers for eight years, engaging seniors in meaningful musical experiences.
Community Contributions
Throughout his life, Bill served as organist and choir director in numerous churches in St. John’s, playing significant roles in many weddings and funerals, including those held at Carnell Memorial Chapel. His contributions to the community stemmed from deep-seated values of humility, family, and heritage.
Family Life
Bill's marriage to Louise in 1969 was a hallmark of his life, and they recently celebrated 55 years together. He was a devoted father who dedicated countless hours to his children and extended family, enjoying outings to parks and sharing treasured moments sledding. His summers in Newtown were filled with joy as he eagerly welcomed visitors to share in the Barbour heritage.
Artistic Nature
In addition to his musical talents, Bill was an artist at heart, known for his creative drawings that adorned the family Christmas card each year. His infectious humor brought joy to those around him, often accompanied by endearing Dad jokes. An animal lover, he had a soft spot for the family cats and found joy in documenting life’s moments on social media to stay connected with friends and family.
Career Ventures
With a background in accounting, Bill worked in various local offices before venturing into business alongside his long-time partner Randell Porter, leaving a mark on the local entrepreneurial landscape.
