In a heartfelt outburst, comedian Romesh Ranganathan has taken aim at West Sussex County Council after his youngest son was denied admission to any of his preferred secondary schools.

Frustrated and disappointed, Ranganathan revealed that despite sending six emails to the council, his pleas went unanswered. His son was placed at a school "on the other side of town," far from his elder brother’s school, a situation that has left him justifiably upset.

The frustration didn't stop there. Ranganathan involved his local MP, who looked into the matter, only to hear back that the council claimed, "they can’t do anything about it." A spokesperson from the council acknowledged the disappointment parents face but refrained from commenting on individual cases.

The star of 'A League of Their Own' and a popular figure on BBC Radio 2 expressed his anger over what seemed like a bureaucratic shrug off. He shared that while parents in similar circumstances had received timely responses, his concerns vanished into the void.

Amplifying his frustration, Ranganathan recounted his conversation with the MP: after two weeks of waiting, he was informed that West Sussex had conducted an internal review of their school placement procedures and found everything to be perfectly fine. Ranganathan couldn’t hide his sarcasm, quipping, "I bet they have." He added, "It’s more than disappointing. It’s not football; it’s my son’s future."

The family now faces the uncertainty of joining a waiting list for a different school, left to ponder what lies ahead in their quest for the best education for their children.
