In a shocking turn of events, an 81-year-old real estate lawyer in Toronto has been charged with fraud after allegedly failing to return a staggering sum of over $500,000 to a client.

According to York Regional Police, the investigation kicked off in May 2024 when a victim reported that funds entrusted to lawyer Ping-Teng Tan back in December 2023 had never been returned.

The police described the inquiry as a 'lengthy investigation' before making the arrest and charging Tan with fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Authorities have released Tan’s photo, warning that there may be other victims due to his role in the real estate sector. Potential victims are urged to come forward.
