In a dramatic turn of events, three individuals have been charged following a shocking carjacking incident involving a stolen BMW that collided with a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) bus in North York early Monday morning.

The ordeal began at the start of the month when a white BMW X6 was reportedly stolen from the Conestoga Drive and Sandalwood Parkway East area in Brampton. According to police reports, the victim was approached by two suspects in a black sedan, one of whom brandished a handgun, forcing the victim to relinquish their vehicle. The suspects fled the scene with the victim's BMW in tow, followed by their getaway vehicle.

Fast forward nearly two weeks, police responded to a house alarm in North York around 4:20 a.m. on November 13, where five suspects in the stolen BMW attempted a burglary. They threw a rock through a glass door but were thwarted by reinforced security, prompting them to make a hasty exit. Shortly after, they successfully broke into another residence in the Bayview Avenue and York Mills area, making off with personal belongings.

The situation escalated on Monday just before 2 a.m., when the stolen BMW collided with a TTC bus at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Bathurst Street. The collision was severe enough to spin the bus around and was captured on video, rapidly circulating on social media. The aftermath was harrowing: the BMW was engulfed in flames, forcing authorities to rush two of its occupants to a trauma center in critical condition. Meanwhile, the bus driver and four passengers sustained minor injuries, with one woman ejected during the crash.

In a coordinated operation involving Durham and York police, investigators executed four search warrants, uncovering a replica handgun and various items pertinent to the ongoing investigation. Authorities have since charged three suspects: 33-year-old Abhira Ponniah, 19-year-old Khasim Mohammed, and 31-year-old Anestan Ganeshamoorthy. Ganeshamoorthy faces the most serious charges, including fleeing from police, reckless driving, and multiple counts tied to the break-ins.
