Shocking Discovery: Hiker Uncovers Plane Debris in the Remote B.C. Wilderness!

2024-10-01

In an unexpected turn of events, a hiker stumbled upon what appears to be debris from an aircraft while exploring the breathtaking backcountry near Revelstoke, British Columbia, in September.

On September 23, Charlie Osborne set out for an afternoon hike on Ghost Peak around 2 p.m. As he navigated the rugged terrain, he was drawn to an unusual object lying on the ground. "I thought it was interesting and wondered what happened," he remarked to Glacier Media. To his surprise, there was no other debris scattered around the area, adding to the mystery.

Upon further inspection, Osborne discovered that the object was likely a part of an aircraft, potentially a rotor blade from a helicopter. He found a similar piece located a short distance away, raising the question of its origin. Initially, Osborne speculated that it might belong to a small plane, recalling a story from a few years prior about a plane crash in the vicinity.

Glacier Media reached out to the Transportation Safety Board for clarity on the debris, but had yet to hear back as of the publication of this article. In an effort to gather more information, Mark Gallicano, the manager of Revelstoke Airport, contacted a local helicopter company, which confirmed that they were aware of the rotor blade being present in the area for some time.

Tragically, the discovery comes in the wake of a fatal helicopter crash earlier this year, when pilot Rob Blair lost his life while flying from Alberta to Sicamous. An investigation by the Transportation Safety Board indicated that the helicopter encountered treacherous weather near Glacier National Park and crashed into the terrain about 11 nautical miles east-northeast of Revelstoke Airport, leading to the aircraft’s complete destruction.

The serene Ghost Peak, where Osborne made his startling find, is located approximately 13 kilometers southeast of Revelstoke, drawing adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike.

As authorities continue to investigate the debris and its connection to past incidents, this remarkable story will be updated with any new developments. Could this discovery unveil more about the region's aviation history? Stay tuned for more shocking updates!
