Suncor Energy Centre Transforms into a Thriving Entertainment Hub by 2027!

The iconic Suncor Energy Centre in Calgary is set to undergo a stunning transformation into a vibrant mixed-use venue that promises to invigorate downtown Calgary’s cultural scene. The ambitious redevelopment plan includes a performing arts amphitheatre, an eclectic food hall, a variety of restaurants, outdoor gathering spaces, and a spectacular rooftop terrace.

A staggering investment of over $90 million is being poured into this multi-year project, which is led by Brookfield Properties and ARCI Ltd. Completion is anticipated by 2027, and it’s already generating buzz within the community.

Brad Parry, president and CEO of Calgary Economic Development and the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, emphasized the significance of this project: "Redevelopment projects like these underscore Calgary’s momentum as a city enhancing community vibrancy and downtown revitalization." It’s a testament to the city's commitment to creating dynamic spaces for residents and visitors alike.

The centerpiece amphitheatre is designed to accommodate around 300 seating options, featuring cascading areas amid lush greenery, where residents can enjoy a variety of art and entertainment performances. The adjacent food hall will be open day and night, providing residents with a plethora of dining options and leading them to inviting outdoor spaces, perfect for enjoying Calgary's beautiful seasons.

Prominent architecture firms involved in the project include KPMG Architects, Kasian Architecture and Interior Design, alongside the Tawaw Architecture Collective, which specializes in indigenous design. Their combined expertise is expected to yield an architectural masterpiece that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Additionally, local Calgarian arts and cultural organizations will collaborate to create an exciting program calendar with film screenings, live music events, art exhibitions, wellness workshops, and community lectures. The food hall will also feature a full-service bar, making it an ideal spot for after-work gatherings or post-performance relaxation.

"The redevelopment aims to revitalize downtown Calgary by offering a host of new entertainment, dining, and social spaces which will be programmed year-round for Calgarians and visitors alike," the project release stated.

Beyond entertainment and food, the revamped Suncor Centre will also include modern office amenities, such as a tenant lounge, fitness center, and state-of-the-art conference facilities located on the third floor. This integration of work-life offerings is designed to attract and retain businesses in the downtown core.

Damon Formos, vice president for Brookfield Properties, shared his enthusiasm: “Repositioning Suncor Energy Centre will provide architectural and experiential showcases for our tenants and all Calgarians to benefit from. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this exciting project to date— we look forward to delivering it for Calgary in 2027.

With this exciting redevelopment, downtown Calgary is poised for a renaissance, blending cultural richness with modern amenities, ensuring a brighter future for the community. Don't miss your chance to witness the transformation of the Suncor Energy Centre into a lively entertainment hub—mark your calendars for 2027!
