Tragedy Strikes in Burnaby: Early Morning Collision Leaves Two Dead and One Injured
In a devastating incident that shook the community of Burnaby early Saturday morning, December 21, two individuals have tragically lost their lives and another has sustained injuries from a serious car accident.
According to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj, police received an urgent report of the collision involving two vehicles just before 5 a.m. at the intersection of Boundary Road and Forest Street. Eyewitnesses report that one vehicle was traveling west on Forest Street when it collided with a vehicle heading north on Boundary Road.
"Life saving measures were attempted on the occupants of the vehicle that was struck; however, both have been pronounced deceased at the scene," Kalanj stated solemnly. Investigators have not yet released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of their families.
The driver of the second vehicle was quickly transported to the hospital and is currently being treated for injuries that are thankfully believed to be non-life-threatening. The community is rallying together, sending thoughts and prayers to all involved, urging for a swift recovery for the injured driver.
As investigators work tirelessly to piece together the details of the incident, Boundary Road remains closed for several hours, impacting morning commuters and creating significant traffic delays. The Burnaby RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has taken over the investigation, diligently working to determine the cause of the collision.
This tragic crash serves as a sobering reminder of road safety, prompting calls from local officials for increased awareness and caution on the roads. As the investigation unfolds, the community is left to mourn the loss of life and hopes for the healing of those affected.
