Tragic Collision on Highway 5 Claims Life of 69-Year-Old Driver
In a devastating incident on Wednesday night, a crash between two vehicles on Highway 5 near the Great Bear Snowshed has resulted in the tragic loss of life. The Hope RCMP are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident that occurred around 9:15 PM.
According to BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), emergency responders rushed to the scene, deploying one air ambulance alongside two ground crews. Fortunately, paramedics did not need to transport any patients to the hospital, but the aftermath of the collision had dire consequences.
On Friday, news emerged that one of the drivers, a 69-year-old man from Hope, BC, sadly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by Staff Sgt. Mike Sargent of the Hope RCMP. The identity of the other driver involved in the crash has not been disclosed, and no further details about injuries have been made public.
As authorities worked to clear the scene, a significant section of the northbound lanes of Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt remained closed for several hours, causing the disruption of traffic and prompting detours for motorists.
