A devastating fire at a high-rise building in Flemingdon Park left one woman dead and a man in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon. The incident unfolded at 45 Grenoble Drive, located just east of Don Mills Road, prompting an urgent response from Toronto Fire Services (TFS).

Fire crews were dispatched to the scene just before 3:30 p.m., where they encountered extreme conditions. TFS Chief Jim Jessop reported that firefighters found the fire raging in a 21st-floor unit, battling intense heat and heavy smoke that rendered visibility nearly impossible. "They faced complete blackness while conducting their search and fire operations," he stated.

During their efforts, firefighters successfully rescued two individuals from the apartment. Both were promptly transported to the hospital with injuries deemed life-threatening. Tragically, one of the victims was later pronounced dead, although authorities have not yet released their identity. The relationship between the victims remains unclear.

Fortunately, the fire has since been brought under control, and the majority of residents who evacuated the building during the emergency have been permitted to return to their homes. Chief Jessop reassured the community, saying, "Our crews have conducted air monitoring, and the remainder of the building is absolutely safe."
