With allegations of misconduct surfacing, the Trump transition team is exploring potential alternatives, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who previously competed against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Sources familiar with the ongoing situation revealed that the transition team is increasingly anxious about Hegseth’s confirmation process, given the troubling allegations against him. These concerns have prompted discussions about DeSantis as a possible replacement if Hegseth's path becomes untenable.

Hegseth's nomination comes on the heels of Trump’s attorney general pick, Matt Gaetz, withdrawing over personal vulnerabilities, signaling a pattern of nominees facing challenges related to their past.
