In a delightful celebration of diversity and uniqueness, the world’s tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, and the world’s shortest woman, Jyoti Amge, gathered for an enchanting afternoon tea at the prestigious Savoy Hotel in London. This extraordinary meeting was held in honor of Guinness World Records Day, showcasing how remarkable individuals can connect despite being at opposite ends of the height spectrum.

The Height Difference

Standing at an astonishing 215.16 centimeters (7 feet 0.7 inches), Gelgi towers over Amge, who measures a petite 62.8 centimeters (2 feet 0.7 inches). The two women share a staggering height difference of 152.36 centimeters (5 feet), yet their conversation flowed effortlessly as they discovered common interests, including a love for make-up, self-care, jewelry, and nail art.

“It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was a truly wonderful experience,” Gelgi reflected. I was amazed by how easily we connected.”

Amge expressed her joy at meeting Gelgi, stating, "I felt so happy to meet my fellow record holder. It’s incredible to learn about each other."

Meet the Record Holders

Rumeysa Gelgi, a talented web designer from Turkey, was officially recognized as the tallest living woman in 2021. Gelgi’s exceptional height is attributed to a rare genetic condition known as Weaver syndrome, which gives her not only extraordinary height but also the title for the largest hands on a woman (24.93 cm or 9.81 inches), the longest back on a living female (59.90 cm or 23.58 inches), and the longest ears on a female (averaging 9.58 cm or 3.77 inches). She has also appeared in the Guinness World Records documentary titled "Rumeysa: Walking Tall," which chronicles her journey across the United States to meet other record holders.

On the other hand, Jyoti Amge, born in India, has made her mark as an actress and media personality despite her small stature, attributed to a condition called achondroplasia, which affects the growth of bones. Amge’s captivating presence on screen includes a memorable role in the series "American Horror Story: Freak Show," whereby she holds the title of the shortest actress in history. Her appearances on Italian TV show "Lo Show Dei Record" have further solidified her place as a beloved figure in entertainment.

A Message of Inclusion

Craig Glenday, the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, emphasized the importance of celebrating differences through their meeting. "By bringing together these two amazing, iconic women, they can share their unique perspectives on life with each other and with us," Glenday stated, highlighting the powerful message of inclusion.

Despite their physical contrasts, Gelgi and Amge serve as role models, inspiring audiences worldwide to embrace and celebrate individuality. Both women have now been named GWR ICONS, a new distinction introduced in the 2025 edition of the Guinness World Records book, symbolizing their remarkable achievements and influence.
