Urgent Mushroom Recall: Risk of Listeria Contamination Affects Consumers in Ontario and Quebec!
A significant health alert has been issued as Health Canada calls for the immediate disposal or return of O'Ya hoho brand Enoki mushrooms due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This warning has been issued for consumers across Ontario and Quebec, urging them to take swift action to ensure their safety.
In a recall notice dated November 27, Health Canada revealed that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) identified potential contamination of Listeria during their routine testing of these mushrooms, which are notably popular in Asian culinary dishes. It is crucial to note that although no illnesses related to these mushrooms have been reported so far, it poses a serious risk to public health.
The affected mushrooms were packaged in 200-gram containers, identifiable by the UPC code 8 57588 00231 1. As a precautionary measure, the CFIA has already taken steps to remove these mushrooms from store shelves across the affected provinces.
Listeriosis, the infection caused by Listeria, can lead to a range of symptoms, including vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches, and neck stiffness. Vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with compromised immune systems are at an even greater risk. In severe cases, listeriosis can have life-threatening consequences.
Health officials are stressing that all consumers should refrain from consuming, serving, or selling these recalled mushrooms. If you have these mushrooms in your possession, it is extremely important to follow the recall guidelines to protect your health and that of others.
