In a significant safety recall, Nuna Baby Essentials is pulling nearly 609,000 child car seats off the market due to a potentially hazardous flaw. The issue centers around the harness adjuster, which can unexpectedly loosen, raising serious concerns about the safety of children in the event of a collision.

The affected models are specific versions of the Nuna Rava seats that featured a plastic harness adjuster button. These car seats were manufactured between July 16, 2016, and October 25, 2023. Investigators from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have found that debris can infiltrate the adjuster, compromising the seat's ability to secure children properly.

To address this critical safety issue, Nuna plans to provide affected owners with a fix-it kit that includes a new seat pad, step-by-step cleaning instructions for the harness adjuster, and a screwdriver to safely remove a plastic cover. However, parents should note that no timeline has been established for when they will receive notification by letter.

Importantly, Nuna has clarified that this recall specifically targets their U.S. products and does NOT affect Nuna car seats sold in Canada. Canadian Rava seats reportedly continue to meet all safety regulations under the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations SOR/2010-90. Nevertheless, Canadian customers can also access cleaning kits and new car seat pads.

This recall comes in the wake of increasing public pressure, prompting the NHTSA to launch an investigation last month based on consumer petitions advocating for a recall.
