Edmonton's Disturbing Spike in Violence
In a shocking turn of events, a man was found dead following multiple shooting incidents in Edmonton over a short span of 24 hours. The city is reeling as police investigate this disturbing spike in violence.
Incident Details
The tragic incident occurred Sunday night near a southeast Edmonton LRT station in Mill Woods. Reports of gunfire reached the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) around 10 p.m., prompting immediate response to the area near 66 Street and 38 Avenue, close to the Valley Line Southeast’s Millbourne/Woodvale Stop.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 52-year-old man suffering from critical injuries. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), he was pronounced dead at the scene, leading the police to classify the death as suspicious. The homicide division has now taken charge of the investigation, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
Public Appeal for Information
In the aftermath of this incident, police are appealing to the public for assistance. They are particularly interested in obtaining dash cam or home security footage from the time frame between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Sunday. Additionally, they urge anyone who witnessed the shooting or noticed unusual activity in the vicinity to come forward with information.
Previous Shootings in the City
This violent episode unfolded shortly after two other shootings on the city's north side. The first incident took place around 6 p.m. in the Kilkenny neighborhood, where residents reported gunfire near 72 Street and 149 Avenue. Upon investigation, police found evidence that a firearm had been discharged, and several bullet casings were recovered from the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this encounter.
Just hours later, another shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Monday in the Homesteader neighborhood, close to 128 Avenue and 45 Street. Again, officers discovered evidence of gunfire, including a bullet hole in a nearby home, yet miraculously, there were no reported injuries.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are now working tirelessly to piece together the events surrounding these three shootings, and the public’s cooperation could be crucial in solving these cases. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or text #377 from their mobile device.
