Weather Woes: School Buses Running in Ottawa but Canceled in Eastern Ontario!

In a tale of two regions, today's weather has brought mixed news for students in Ontario. While school buses are operating seamlessly for students in Ottawa and Renfrew County, transportation services have been called off for several schools in eastern Ontario, creating a ripple of anxiety and confusion among parents.

Currently, a freezing drizzle advisory is in effect across various regions including Ottawa, Cornwall-Lancaster, Brockville, Prescott, and extending to Kingston, Gananoque, and several places in Renfrew County. With icy conditions lurking, the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority assures parents that school buses are indeed running as scheduled for all English public and Catholic, as well as French public and Catholic schools in the city.

However, for those in Renfrew County, while buses are running for both the Renfrew County District School Board and the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board, parents should brace for possible delays due to the treacherous road conditions.

In stark contrast, the Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario has reported a complete cancellation of school bus services for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board. This means that students in communities such as Kingston, Trenton, Carleton Place, Kemptville, Merrickville, Marionville, Brockville, and Prescott-Russell will not have access to their usual bus services.

Furthermore, all French schools in these areas will also be without transportation, putting additional strain on families who might struggle to find alternative means. Parents in Kingston are advised that schools, including those under the Limestone District School Board and the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, are open, though travel may prove to be a significant challenge.

As winter's icy grip tightens across Ontario, one can only wonder: how will these changing weather patterns affect school operations in the coming weeks? Stay tuned as we bring you the very latest updates!
