Around 7 p.m., the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP announced that evacuations were in effect for residents on Range Road 195, just north of Highway 16. Authorities urged anyone in the vicinity to prepare an evacuation kit in case they needed to leave their homes.

Just before 6 p.m., the RCMP reported a grass fire ignited behind the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, roughly 50 kilometers east of Edmonton. Firefighters declared the situation was spiraling out of control, leading to the closure of Highway 16 in both directions.

Motorists were advised to steer clear of the area and seek alternative routes. As the fire raged on, the RCMP confirmed it had spread to structures within the cultural village. By 10 p.m., firefighters finally gained the upper hand, bringing the blaze under control and reopening the highway.
