At last week's Masters Champions Dinner, Zach Johnson fully embraced the spirit of indulgence, and the results were unforgettable!
Calling into Colt Knost's SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio show, Johnson spilled the beans about the exclusive annual dinner at Augusta National, which is a privilege reserved for past winners. This year, Scottie Scheffler, the defending champion, curated a mouthwatering menu that featured cheeseburger sliders, spicy firecracker shrimp, savory meatball and ravioli bites, and the ultimate dessert—warm chocolate chip skillet cookies!
The main attractions, wood-fired cowboy ribeyes and blackened redfish, were devoured by most in attendance—except for Johnson and fellow golfer Jordan Spieth, who went all-in.
"It’s my favorite reservation of the year, for obvious reasons, and I love to eat," Johnson exclaimed. After diving into the feast, he admitted to waddling out "not very comfortable, but that’s the point. I definitely overdid it!"
It turns out the hefty meal paid off, as Johnson impressively tied for eighth place, marking his best finish at the Masters since his glorious win in 2007.
When asked for advice for next year's dinner host, Rory McIlroy, Johnson couldn't help but chuckle: "Just bring it! Whatever you want—bring it. I mean, the guys will appreciate it! Sure, it might come with a hefty price tag, but you'd definitely want to do it again and again. Incorporate a piece of who you are into the menu!"
Johnson's playful words carry a heartfelt message that emphasizes the unique joy of sharing culinary experiences among champions. His advice? Enjoy crafting a memorable menu, especially since you won't have this opportunity every year. After all, the first time is always the most special!
