In a recent discussion about the beloved adventure platformer, Astro Bot, Team Asobi’s studio head Nicolas Doucet addressed a notable absence that has sparked conversation among fans: the exclusion of characters from Final Fantasy VII. While the game is a vibrant celebration of PlayStation's history, featuring numerous nods to iconic titles, the absence of such a significant franchise has left many wondering about the decision-making process behind character inclusion.

The Selection Process for Astro Bot Characters

Doucet revealed that the selection of the game’s over 300 bots was more straightforward than anticipated. “I was thinking, ‘Well, maybe half of the ones we’re wishing for will make it,’” he explained. “In the end, almost 100% are in, because these partners just raised their hand and said, ‘Absolutely.’” This indicates a cooperative effort with various game publishers to bring their characters to life in Astro Bot, yet not all franchises were represented.
