Atlanta United Roster Changes

In a strategic move poised to reshape their squad, Atlanta United has officially announced year-end roster changes as they prepare for the 2025 MLS season. The club confirmed they will retain 18 players already under contract while exercising options for four additional players whose performances have been promising.

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan, defender Efraín Morales, and midfielders Jay Fortune and Santiago Sosa have all had their contract options picked up, reinforcing crucial positions on the field.

Contract Options Declined

However, it's not all good news. Six players have seen their contract options declined: Erik Centeno, Nick Firmino, Ronald Hernández, Franco Ibarra, Jamal Thiaré, and Tyler Wolff. The organization is still negotiating potential returns for Hernández, Thiaré, and Wolff, while Wolff will be placed on waivers, making him available to all teams looking to bolster their roster.

Departures and Retirements

Adding to the roster shakeup, the loan for forward Daniel Ríos will conclude at the end of the calendar year. Notably, veteran midfielder Dax McCarty is bowing out after an illustrious 19-year MLS career, alongside goalkeeper Quentin Westberg, who is also retiring after six impactful seasons in the league.

Key Offseason Dates

As the MLS offseason ramps up, key dates to watch include the opening of the half-day trade window on December 9 at 9:00 a.m. The highly anticipated MLS Expansion Draft follows on December 11, introducing San Diego FC into the league for the upcoming season. Free Agency and End-of-Year Waivers will kick off on December 12, with the Re-Entry Process commencing on December 13.
