In a shocking and devastating turn of events, James Lee Williams, widely known by their stage persona The Vivienne, has tragically passed away at the young age of 32. The heartbreaking news was confirmed by their manager Simon Jones, who shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram lamenting the loss of his cherished friend over the weekend.

“It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams, The Vivienne, has passed away this weekend,” the statement revealed. “James was an incredibly loved, warmhearted and amazing person. Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career. We will not be releasing any further details, and we kindly ask for privacy for James’s family during this difficult time.”

In a touching follow-up, Jones expressed his profound sorrow, saying, “These are words I never ever wanted to write. Viv was a close friend and someone I loved deeply. From the moment I met them in 2019, I knew we could create magic together. Their talent was immense; the light they brought to every room was astonishing. No one has ever made me laugh in my life as much as Viv did. Their comic genius and quick wit were unmatched.”

The Vivienne made history as the first-ever winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK” in 2019 and later appeared in the seventh season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” further solidifying their place as a beloved figure in the drag community.

Notable personalities within the drag community have expressed their sorrow over the loss. Michelle Visage, a prominent judge on “Drag Race,” shared her heartbreak via social media. “I don’t know how to say how I feel,” she stated. “Your laughter, your wit, your talent, your drag—everything was remarkable, but your friendship meant the most to me.”

Jinkx Monsoon, who claimed the title in “Drag Race All Stars” Season 7, also paid tribute, stating, “It’s too soon for a curtain call, but I know it’s a standing ovation.”

World of Wonder, the production company behind the “Drag Race” franchise, expressed their condolences as well. They wrote, “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of James Lee Williams, AKA The Vivienne this weekend. Her talent, humor, and kindness inspired many.”

Born in 1992 in Colwyn Bay, Wales, Williams was not just a drag performer; they were also a musician and stage actor. In 2022, they released their debut EP entitled “Bitch,” and in 2023, they thrilled audiences by portraying The Wicked Witch of the West in a stage adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz” at London’s West End.

The loss of The Vivienne has left a significant void in the hearts of many, as they were often regarded as a beacon of hope and joy in the drag community. As friends, fans, and family mourn, The Vivienne’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through their incredible achievements and the joy they brought to others.
